Think OUTSIDE the softbox's Teeth whitning tutorial!
Hello again, here's yet another portriat tutorial for ya. This time it's dealing with less then perfect teeth coloring.
The subject we're going to use is a beautiful model I shot with:
Switch to the Lasso Tool and draw a selection aroun the teeth being very CAREFUL to NOT include ANY OF THE GUMS AND OR LIPS
Under the slelect menu, choose Feather. When the dialog appears, enter 1pixel and hit ok. This will smooth out the edges and make it look more natural. The object of restoring photos it to make it look as if the photo has NOT been retouched.
Next we're going to bring up the Hue/Saturation, this will take the Yellow out as well as any other colors that may be hiding in the background. The long way to get to the Hue/Saturation is to go under Image >>Adjustment>>Hue/Saturation. The fast way is to hit control (or command key on Mac)+ U. When the box appears, use the drop down menu to select Yellows. Drag the Saturation slider to the left, this will remove the yellow from the teeth. When you do this, you don't want to move it all the way to the left, or else it'll be just a blank white space where the teeth is supposed to be.
Now the yellow is gone. Switch back to the Master option and drag the Lightness slider to the right to whiten and brighten the teeth. Keep an eye on the teeth to again make sure you don't over do it, or make it look obvious it's been retouched. Once you find a level that's acceptable to you, click ok and your changes will be made. Press control (command if on mac)+ d and your lasso will disappear. Your retouch is now done!
